Voices of Spanish Poets: Vocal Archive and Experimental Study on Poetry Reading (VSP)
VSP is a research project of the University of Granada, designed and coordinated by the Principal Investigator (PI) Valentina Colonna (Supervisors: Antonio Pamies Bertrán, Francisca Serrano).
The project aims to present the first experimental study on the reading of Spanish poetry that employs Digital Humanities tools. The main goal of the VSP is to store, evaluate and explore the recorded voices of 20th and 21st century Spanish poets using an interdisciplinary approach. While the relationship between text and reading has mainly been addressed theoretically, recent international experimental studies based on audio recordings offer new avenues for exploration.
However, no experimental research has been conducted on the reading of Spanish poetry. VSP fills this knowledge gap through its four main objectives: to create a dynamic digital platform for studying and listening to Spanish poetry reading; to conduct an experimental phonetic study on the VSP archive; to study poetry reading from an experimental psycholinguistic, cognitive and psychophysiological approach, taking into account the perception and representation of text through listening; to integrate these last two research approaches.
The project is funded by the European Union (MSCA-Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions, Postdoctoral Fellowship) at the University of Granada (UGR) and is developed between the Department of General Linguistics and Theory of Literature and Comparative Literature and the Research Centre Mind, Brain and Behaviour (CIMCYC).
The aim is to provide a new digital resource for listening to and learning poetry, and to facilitate new tools for interpreting and teaching poetry reading, thereby contributing to the dissemination of this field of research. All collected data and research results will be the property of the UGR.
